CITY OF RICHARDSON, TEXAS Seeks a DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICES
Richardson (pop. 103,000) is located in Dallas and Collin Counties approximately 12 miles north of the Dallas Central Business District. The City is strategically situated within a high-growth corridor traversed by two major highways, Central Expressway (U.S. 75) and President George Bush Turnpike. Dallas Area Rapid Transit operates four light rail stations within the City. Richardson enjoys a successful balance between jobs and housing, with an estimated employment base of 110,400, concentrated in the telecommunications industry. Technology-related employment is expected to increase to an estimated 163,000 jobs by 2030. Home to University of Texas at Dallas and the Eisemann Performing Arts Center, the city offers outstanding quality of life.
The Community Services Department is comprised of 3 divisions — Code Enforcement, Building Inspection and Community Programs — each overseen by an Assistant Director or Manager. The Department is supervised by the Director of Community Services), who reports to the Assistant City Manager for Community Services. The divisions within the Community Services Department work closely and cooperatively with other departments on issues related to code enforcement, building inspection, environmental initiatives and interactions with neighborhoods and the 67 homeowners’ associations within the City. The new Director will have oversight of a staff of 29 full-time and 6 part employees, and an annual operating budget of $3.1 million.
Required education includes a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, engineering, public administration, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in a related field is preferred. Certification as a Building Official or Code Enforcement Administrator is preferred. Eight years experience in municipal code enforcement and/or building inspection services or equivalent is required, with a minimum of four years experience in a managerial role. The ideal candidate will have extensive work experience in a comparable or larger municipality within an urban environment and working knowledge of current building codes and inspection practices.
